It's been said before elsewhere on this site
that "Project
management is a juggling act".
Without effective and
structured project management process in place,
it is all to easy to do things in the wrong
order, and before you know it, your project is
out of control.
Research into project failure shows that the
two aspects of a project that affect the
successful outcome of
all projects more than any other are:
- Project Definition; and,
- Project Close-out
What this translates
to in real-life is:
-
There's usually too much adrenaline and not
enough thinking at the very outset of a
project. So the foundation for the entire
project is poorly constructed. This means that
everything that is built on this base will be
potentially unstable: a future headache
waiting to happen.
-
Towards the end of a project, there are a lot
of loose ends to tie up, and without very
tight and effective control, these tasks can
easily consume an inordinate amount of time,
leading to cost and time over-run on the
project.
There has to be a better way.
I'm pleased to say that there is, and it's a
question of applying common sense to each and
every project.
iProjects utilise PRINCE2, an Internationally
recognised project management approach including
effective processes for all stages of a projects
lifecycle.
To get the best from this approach, iProjects
carefully selecting the most
appropriate use of the PRINCE 2 processes, and the underlying
project management body of knowledge and tools,
to ensure that clients' projects set off from
the correct foundation, and continue until they
have been completed.
